Illuminating Stories of the Unseen
Remy Lee's Journey

Treasure Island Anthropology
Immersing myself into Jeju Indigenous’—my island neighbors’—narratives inspired me never to assume one’s reality, but expand my perspective by proactively engaging differences. I shared the excellence of Jeju culture and advocated for its continuity through ethnographic research, photo essays, and films.
My applied anthropology X environmental science service initiative seeks to restore Jeju’s marine ecosystem and save Jeju’s beloved Haenyeo heritage from the brink of extinction. I collaborated with Haenyeo in developing, deploying, and managing my artificial reef.
Whether translating Catullus’ poetry or interpreting Greek myth, I am fascinated by what the ancient world teaches about human life. Not only is Classics intellectually rewarding, but it also provides a broader perspective from which to approach anthropology, literature, and the arts.
Down to my heartstrings, I am a total artist and a storyteller. As much as I am an analytical thinker, my primary instinct is to feel the tragic beauty of this world and the humans. I like poetry for its boundlessness, photography for its room of rediscovery, and film for its immersive power.
BIology & Environmental Science
Tidal pools and Grandma’s small garden are where I first found my love of learning and artistic inspiration. Since then, I have been passionate about applying my education to preserve the natural world.
